In the sun

Olá! Tenho andado numa correria, com o estágio, as aulas para preparar e a minha vida pessoal, pelo que o tempo para tirar fotografias escasseia. Ainda assim, consegui tirar umas fotografias na semana passada com um conjunto de que gostei muito (conseguimos, dado que foi o meu namorado que as tirou). 

Sempre ouvi que riscas e flores não se deviam juntar, que era um atentado à moda tal como usar sapatos e malas de cores diferentes, ou não combinar o verniz das unhas das mãos com o dos pés. Mas, tal como as pessoas que me diziam tais coisas, também a moda cresceu e, em certas partes, para melhor - o quebrar certas "regras" é uma dessas formas. Um dia destes faço um pequeno artigo sobre as regras da moda que podem e devem ser quebradas - mas não vai ser hoje.

Quero só deixar aqui um beijo enorme de parabéns para o meu namorado, que é, honestamente, a melhor pessoa que conheço (de longe) - sim, passa ligeiramente da meia noite mas como ainda não fui dormir é como se ainda fosse dia 20.

Hi! My life has been hectic these past weeks - juggling my teaching practice, the preparation of classes and my personal life can be quite difficult. Given that, it has also been a tad more hard to take pictures, but I did manage to take these (well, we did, because my boyfriend took the pictures while I just stood there).

I've always heard that you shouldn't match stripes and flowers, as well as you shouldn't wear different colored shoes and bag and have non-matching nail polish on your fingers and toes. But you know what? The people who told me this have evolved, just like fashion has. It is now believed that rules were ment to be broken, so go mixed patterns all the way. One of these days I'll write an article about said rules, but not today.

I just want to leave here a huge birthday kiss to my amazing boyfriend, who is honestly the best person I know (by far). And I do know that it's past midnight (in Portugal), but I haven't gone to bed yet, so it's as if it was still the 20th.

Unlikely match: Purple & Yellow

Olá! Trago-vos excelentes notícias! A partir de hoje, o blogue torna-se oficialmente um membro dos blogues recomendados pela FOX Life. Agradeço imenso à equipa da FOX (não fosse esse o canal que mais se vê aqui por casa. As minhas séries preferidas atualmente transmitidas pelo canal são o Sexo e a Cidade (que desde o dia 1 de maio está de volta aos ecrãs portugueses - já não era sem tempo), o The Middle e o 90210. A-doro!

Posto isto, lembrei-me de criar uma rúbrica que irá passar a aparecer de vez em quando no blogue. Chama-se "Unlikely match" e mostra maneiras de conjugar peças ou cores que à partida não ficariam bem juntas. Espero que gostem.

Hey guys! Today I bring you awesome news (maybe not for you guys - since you're reading this in english, I will assume that you're not from Portugal - anyway, here are the good news): from this day on, Petit Livre Noir will become a blog recommended by FOX Life (an amazing tv channel that normally broadcasts tv series and movies). My favorite shows are Sex and the City (well, duh), The Middle and 90210.

On another note, I decided to create a new feature on the blog, called "Unlikely match", which will basically show you ways of matching pieces or colors that you thought to be unmatchable.  I hope you like it!

Spingtime summer

Olá! Este é só um post super rápido de um conjunto que usei no fim-de-semana. Estava um dia óptimo e apeteceu-me usar muita cor - foi isto que saiu. Curiosamente fiquei a condizer com o Terreiro do Paço.

E, não sei se conhecem, mas queria partilhar convosco uma música que não me larga a cabeça. Ando literalmente (e acreditem que não uso esta palavra com facilidade, dado que sou aparentemente uma das poucas pessoas que faz a distinção entre literalmente e figurativamente) a cantá-la de manhã à noite. É muito gira, mas já começa a irritar. Devagarinho vai-me moendo o juízo, mas como gosto dela o desgaste é mais lento. Anyway, é da banda She and Him, da Zooey Deschanel. Oiçam que vale a pena. Hi there! This is just a super quick update featuring an outfit that I wore the past weekend. I felt like wearing a lot of color (as you can see). I know that I'm matching the walls of the building behind me (Terreiro do Paço), but it was totally not on purpose.

Also, I don't know if you know it, but I've had a song stuck in my head for a while now and I've LITERALLY been singing it the whole day (and I don't use this word often, given that I'm one of the few who actually know the difference between literally and figuratively). Anyway, it's from the band She and Him by Zooey Deschanel and you can listen to it HERE.

What To Wear: Colored Jeans

Olá! Com a chegada do calor (esperemos que seja para ficar), chega um desejo indomável de nos enchermos de cor - desejo esse que, se não fosse controlado pelo nosso bom senso, nos levaria a sair de casa a parecer um palhaço que se vestiu às escuras.

Por isso hoje trago-vos algumas sugestões de como usar calças coloridas sem parecer um trabalhador do circo.

A chave está na cor: claro que podemos sempre usar umas calças coloridas, uma blusa branca e está a andar, fica bem, é clássico e não há como enganar. Mas é verdade que usar sempre o mesmo tipo de conjunto, ainda que se varie a cor das calças, é entediante. A minha sugestão é não se cingirem à aposta segura do branco+cor. Uma das melhores coisas da moda é inventar, é a diversão que o jogo de fazer conjunto nos traz. Como tal, lanço-vos um desafio: da próxima vez que usarem calças coloridas, apostem em misturá-las com outra cor que não branco (ou com outra cor para além de branco). 

Não exagerar: é verdade o que disse ali em cima, mas, como em tudo na vida, é necessário ter um pouco de noção das cores que queremos conjugar. Não exagerar - se se apostar em peças com cores muito chamativas é capaz de ser boa ideia não abusar no tamanho das peças, isto é, se usarmos uma blusa cor de lima (como no primeiro conjunto que vos mostro ali em baixo) e colares roxos, é preciso saber quando parar de juntar cor, se não fica tudo uma grande salganhada e não existe espaço para deixarmos as peças brilhar. Nesse caso em específico, juntei apenas umas calças brancas que ajudaram a tornar o conjunto mais usável.

Quando em dúvida, escolher um tema: não, não vos peço que se vistam à fada ou à pirata. Apenas que associem a cor das vossas calças a um determinado motivo para que a junção das restantes peças seja mais fluída e simples. No caso das calças vermelhas, o motivo que escolhi foi um motivo náutico, no qual incluí aspetos característicos do mesmo, como riscas ou âncoras. No conjunto debaixo desse, o tema eleito foi um tema floral, no qual predominam os tons pastel das calças e da mala e um padrão com flores da blusa (para tornar esse conjunto mais adulto juntei-lhe sapatos e cardigan pretos e acessórios muito simples).

Aqui estão três dicas simples e úteis (espero) sobre como usar calças coloridas.

Hi! When the hot, sunny and perfect weather comes (hopefully to stay), a big urge to fill ourselves with color comes in as well - said urge would sometimes let us leave the house looking like a clown who got dressed in the dark (thank God we have something called common sense to slap us on the face when needed).

That is why I brought you some tips on how to wear colored pants without looking like a circus worker:

Color is key: of course we can wear colored jeans and match them with a white blouse. It's always a right bet, it's classic and I guess you can never go too wrong if you stick with this. It is also true that wearing the same type of outfit over and over again is tedious. In order to avoid such boredom I suggest you wear something out of your comfort zone, something other than colored jeans+white. I challenge you not to wear your traditional white and colored jeands outfit - add something to the picture or change something in order to make it look less plain.

Don't go over the top: if it's true what I said before about changing things, playing with color, it is also true that you need to have a little idea of which colors go with which. Don't exaggerate - if you pick brightly colored pieces it might be a good idea to keep thing proportional - if, for example, you wear a lime colored blouse (like the one on the first outfit) and you want to wear purple with it, don't mix in any color other than white. That way the outfit will still look fun without looking too over the top, otherwise the pieces you picked won't have any room to breathe and shine on their own.

When in doubt, pick a theme:wait, don't murder me just yet. I'm not asking you to dress like a fairy or a pirate. I'm sinply saying that when you're out of inspiration regarding your colored pants outfit, just place them in a theme. I'll explain: see the second outfit up there? Well, the theme I picked was nautical, so I chose stripes and anchors to make it more fun and less boring. On the second outfit the chosen theme was floral, so I put together an outfit with pastel colors and a floral pattern blouse (to make it more adult I simply added a black bag and cardigan and very simple jewelery).

Mint me half way

Olá olá! Pois bem, meus queridos, parece que é desta que estou de volta. Hoje entrego um projeto super importante para a faculdade por isso depois fico muito mais livre para me dedicar ao blogue.

Há uns dias, estava eu cumprir a tarefa hercúlea de fazer uma limpeza de primavera ao meu quarto e roupeiro, quando eis se não quando me deparei com estas calças, perdidas no meio de uma imensidão de roupas e todo o tipo de coisas. Arrumei-as e não fiz mais caso delas. Até hoje. São honestamente das calças mais confortáveis que já tive e para além disso têm uma cor linda. Yay, go me!

Sou só eu que ando a sofrer com este bom tempo momentâneo? Não nos podem dar uns diazinhos de sol e calor e depois tirá-los como se estivéssemos no outono outra vez. Snif. Os meus bikinis choram todos os dias para eu os usar, mas com o vendaval do demónio lá fora não tenho grande vontade de o fazer. Parece que vão ter de esperar mais uns dias e eu, desesperar.

Hi there! And so it seems that I'm back for good. A huge project for college is due today so it means that I'll have more time in my hands to spend on the blog.

Soooo a few days ago for some reason I thought that doing a spring cleaning on my room was a good idea (it wasn't, and the fact that my room got even messier than it was is probably a good indicator) and as I was doing that, I found these mint pants in the middle of a clothes cluster that was my size. I stored them and didn't remember doing it. Until today. These are honestly one of the most comfortable pants I've ever owned, besides, they have the cutest color. Yay, go me!

On a completely unrelated subject, am I the only one suffering from this tiny tiny period of amazingly sunny and warm days? You can't give us a taste of summer and then take it back as if it was autumn. Poor us! My bikinis are weeping from the closet, asking for me to wear them, but with freakin' storms outside I don't really feel like it. I guess they'll just have to wait for a few more days. Just like poor me (and everyone else who lives in Portugal).

Creepy Creepers

Aparentemente os creepers estão de novo na moda, de volta do inferno onde foram criados. A sério, onde é que estas coisas pavorosas nasceram? (de acordo com a wikipédia apareceram na altura de 2ª Guerra Mundial e eram usados por soldados nos desertos do Norte de África devido ao ambiente hostil dos mesmos. Vêem, os creepers até cumpriram um propósito na vida, foram úteis, por isso a não ser que sejam viajantes no tempo, ou vivam em tais condições que a única coisa a manter os vossos pés vivos são os creepers, presenteiem-se com algo mais estético do que sapatos que parecem ser de betão.
E se continuam convictos de que os creepers são OS sapatos, então deixem-me dissuadi-los com três argumentos de peso:

Soo, aparently creepers are back in style (thay have been in a while), back from the hell where they were created. Seriously, where were those hideous things born? (according to wikipedia they were created during World War II, when soldiers who served in the deserts of Northern Africa had to wear them as protection from the climate and environment). Wow, see, thay actually served a purpose in life so unless you are a time traveler, or live in such conditions that creepers are the only thing keeping your feet from life and death, skip the creepers and wear some sneakers insted.

And if you still think that creepers are the next best ting, let me dissuade you with my killer arguments (kidding):

#1 - lembram-se daquelas bonecas que estiveram na moda há uns anos, as Bratz? Para quem não se recorda, tenho apenas a dizer que eram umas bonecas que tinham certamente como ambição assemelharem-se a uma prostituta que viva demasiado próximo de uma central nuclear que começou a libertar radiação, porque tinham uma cabeça e pés desproporcionais ao resto do corpo. A sério, os pés delas eram assustadoramente grandes e quando alguém usa creepers não consigo deixar de pensar nessas bonecas.

#1 - do you remember those Bratz dolls? For those of you who don't remember, all I have to say is that they were actually some brats whose life purpose was to become a professional stripper who lived to close to a nuclear plant disaster (because of the disproportionate size of their heads and feet). Honestly, their feet were freakishly big and anytime anyone wears creepers, I can't help but think of the Bratz.

#2 - os creepers são feios. Tão simples quanto isto. Já vos tinha dito que são feios? Não se pode enfatizar esta ideia demasiado. Depois há algumas tentativas de os embelezar, dando-lhes padrões bonitos e solas claras. Uma espécie de ténis mas com uma sola gigante. Sabem que mais? Se gostam disso, comprem ténis. Uns keds, por exemplo, são giros, estão na moda e para além disso ficam bem a toda a gente (quase que consigo imaginar a Rainha de Inglaterra a usá-los).

#2 - creepers are ugly. As simple as that. Oh, did I mention that they're ugly too? One can never stress it enough. There are some (failed) attempts at beautifying this type of shoe by making them in a cute pattern and a bright sole. Kind of some giant-ass sneakers. You know what? If you like that idea, buy some tennis shoes instead. Maybe some Keds or Converse, they're cute, they never go out of style and besides that they look great on absolutely everyone (I can almost picture the Queen of England wearing them).

#3 - acho que não preciso de vos dar mais razões, pois não? E como uma imagem vale mais do que mil palavras, deixo-vos com uns brilhantes exemplares:

Acho que iria morrer se tentasse usar isto. Já sou desastrada o suficiente normalmente, acho que não preciso de 50 cm de sola a dificultar-me a vida.

I feel like I would die if I wore these. I mean, I'm clumsy enough as it is, I don't think I need a 50 cm sole to help with the process of staying alive on a daily basis

Stop it, fashion! What the hell?

Porquê tentar melhorar algo que já é perfeito? All Star brancos são os ténis mais amorosos de sempre, porquê? NÃÃÃÃO

Why try to improve something perfect? White chucks are the cutest sneakers ever, why would they do this? NOOOO

Sei que há pessoas muito sensíveis por isso quero apenas assegurar que não estou de nenhuma forma a gozar com elas nem a criticar os seus gostos/estilo pessoais. Esta é meramente a minha opinião acerca deste tipo de sapatos, nada mais. Não estou de nenhuma forma a dizer que quem gosta destes sapatos tem mau gosto, apenas que (claramente) tem um gosto diferente do meu. Love ya all.

I know that there are some very sensible people out there, so I just want to reassure them that I am in no way criticizing their personal taste/style. This is merely my opinion about this type of shoes, nothing else. I'm in no way stating that you have a poor taste, I just (clearly) don't share it when it comes to creepers. Love ya all.
